Kaduna speaker escapes impeachment

THE Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Mu’azu Gangara, was  on Thursday given a 30-day ultmatum to improve on  his leadership style.

The Chairman, House Committee on Information,  Yakubu Yusuf, however,  denied the allegation that Vice President Namadi Sambo had given N1m to each member to remove the Speaker.

He said the move was in the best interest of the state and had nothing to do with Sambo.

He said the leadership style of the Speaker  was one that had created a sour relationship between the Executive the Judiciary.

He added that attempts, so far  made  for the Speaker to amend his style of leadership, had failed.

He said, “All attempts to make him see reason and change, proved abortive, until the motion for his impeachment was brought to the House by Hon. Philemon Mana, a Peoples Democratic Party member, representing Makera State Constituency yesterday.

“The Speaker of the House, between today and the next 30 days, will be the architect of his own fortune. If he changes, good for him, but if the House still remains weak, then we know what to do.

“I must use this occasion to inform you that the Speaker, who is also a PDP member like myself, led other leaders  of the House to apologise to members yesterday and promised to improve on his leadership style, and we, as gentlemen, accepted their apology and gave them 30 days of grace to see the promised improvement in leadership.

“I want to use this opportunity to debunk claims in some quarters that members were given N1m each by the Vice President to effect the removal of the Speaker. This is baseless and a lie.”

August 19, 2013 We heard fire victims cry for help –Residents   Ekene   Neighbours of a family that perished in an inferno in a building located in Shagari Estate, Lagos State, said they heard the victims’ cries for help. PUNCH Metro had reported last week Thursday that a family of five lost their lives after  fire engulfed their three-bedroom apartment in the early hours of Wednesday. The victims of the fire were the mother, Mrs Anwuzia, the children, Ekene 16, and Emeka 17, an aunt, identified only as Philomena, and another yet-to-be- identified man.
